(More customer reviews)I am fat, but I'm currently trying to change that. Not being a body builder I wondered if this product was for me, and I was very happy with the results. I keep these with me on days that I can't prepare a meal or when I am tired of my diet food and want something that has a little more hearty flavor. Caveat is: just like turkey-jerky, if you didn't know you were eating ostrich you might think that it tastes a bit different. Keep in mind that ostrich tastes more like chicken than beef.
The Good:
Compact (will fit in cargo pocket)
Tasty
Fairly low salt
Semi-Moist (good or bad depending on your taste)
80 calories
Great for diets
The Bad:
Hard to open sometimes
A bit large to fit in pocket (won't fit in standard pants pocket)
Co-workers think you are weird to eat Ostrich
A little expensive
So, with all that said, I keep a box of these in my cupboard at all times just in case I need a snack and I don't want to go off-diet. Buy a box and see what you think.

(More customer reviews)If you're a former junk food junkie like me, then you'll get an idea of what these things taste like when I describe them as a more fibrous (chewy) version of rice kripy squares with a chocolate coating on the bottom. They really are that delicious. And at 170 calories with 4gm of fat (1.5gm saturated), 9gm of protein, and 5gm of fiber, they are a healthy alternative to many other types of snacks that one could indulge in (pastries, candy, etc).
These are easily my favorite protein bar and I've tried over a dozen kinds.
Edit on 9/27/07: This review pertains to the chocolate peanut Go Lean flavor. I just noticed that Amazon is grouping reviews for all of Kashi's bars together, so without specificity in the review it's impossible to know which product is being reviewed.

Supreme Protein Carb Conscious Bars, Cookies & Cream Review

(More customer reviews)I've tried most of the Supreme Protein flavors, and though I'm still partial to the Rocky Road, this one is very tasty. It has nice crisp bits, is quite chocolatey, and is satisfying protein-wise. I tend to prefer buying the smaller sizes in this bar, and sometimes just have half for a snack when I crave candy. The 1.6 ounce size bar has 190 calories, so half makes for your "almost 100 calories" portioned snack. I don't like to have a lot of sugar-free bars that have maltitol, anyway, as that can give me gas and bathroom ickies. One servings of 1.6 ounces has 7 grams of fat (4.5 saturated), 15 grams of protein, and 15 grams of carbs, so it's balanced for those insulin resistant types who watch the combo of carbs to protein (or folks who just want lower carb snack options.)
Except for the pretzel twist variety, I've liked very much the flavor of the Supreme Protein bars. They really do taste like candy bars.

(More customer reviews)yummy. some of the best tasting protein bars available. great for low-carb dieters or diabetics if you believe in the theory that "net carbs" (carbs minus fiber, etc.) should be counted instead of just "carbs". no artificial sweeteners like sucralose, etc., which is good if you think those things may cause cancer...the low "net carbs" are due to a high amount of "sugar alcohols". these bars are best found for less than $1 per bar or $15 per 15 bar case.
ABOUT SUGAR ALCOHOLS
Sugar alcohols are usually incompletely absorbed into the blood stream from the small intestines which generally results in a smaller change in blood glucose than regular sugar (sucrose). This makes them popular sweeteners among diabetics and low-carb dieters. As with many other incompletely digestible substances (dietary fiber), overconsumption can lead to bloating, diarrhea and flatulence because they are not absorbed in the small intestine. Doesn't happen to me... Good luck.

Other bars also tend to have corn syrup and other additives I didn't want. The list of ingredients in these bars is pretty simple, nothing nasty, and they're high in calcium too! Of course, none of this would matter if they didn't taste good, but almost to my surprise they do. I really would like to order them here, but the price is not competitive with what I found elsewhere.

(I like chocolate as much as the next person, but not always for breakfast.) The bar is moist and almost buttery -- like a pleasantly chewy/lightly gooey homemade granola bar. I think the previous poster was reviewing a different bar (this one has neither chocolate nor, to my eye, almonds). It's just granola, dried fruit, and a sweet white yogurt "icing" on the bottom. Yummy!

(More customer reviews)I first opened a slimfast bar box when I returned home hungry. The first thing I noticed was the TINY size of the bars in the box. Is this one size fits all? I'm a pretty tall guy. One of these bars is NEVER going to do it!!
The second thing I noticed were the ingredients...
1. CORN SYRUP.
2. HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP.
These are the first two ingredients!!! THAT MEANS THESE BARS AS MADE MOSTLY OF CORN SYRUP!! It has been my experience that what they say about glycemic indexes is absolutely true. Anything that is very sweet will cause a person to feel much more hunger later. Plus, do a search for "High Fructose Corn Syrup" to find out if it is good for you.
THERE IS ALSO PLENTY OF HYDROGENATED PALM KERNEL OIL!! Do a search for "hydrogenated palm kernel oil health risks"
AND LOOK AT THE CARB TO PROTEIN RATIO OF A 23g PEANUT BUTTER SLIMFAST SNACK BAR (FROM THE SLIMFAST SITE)...

Wow! Again, anything that is high in carbs and low in protein will cause a person to feel much more hungry later!!!! The Opposite of what you want when you are dieting.
These are tasty bars. Much more like a candy bar in flavor than a granola bar, but apart from the fact that they are tiny, I do not "get" the name "Slim"fast. ANY mini size regular candy bar would do exactly the same thing. And that's why I gave them 1 Star!!
Even better to find any good protein bar made with ingredients that are a lot more nutritious for the human body. Any bar that is high in protein and/or fiber, and low in carbs and sugars would curb the hunger far longer than these ever could...
For Example, MY Personal Favorite Protein Bar happens to be Pure Protein Bars. I am NOT making any money telling you this (wish I could). I only prefer Pure Protein bars because they do NOT have calcium caseinate protein, which my digestion has never handled very well...
LOOK AT THE PROTEIN TO CARB RATIO OF A 50g PURE PROTEIN BAR (CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER)...

(More customer reviews)I've tried all the organic raw bars I could find and this brand (and this flavor) is my favorite. It reminds me of a tootsie roll. I've never been a huge tootsie roll fan, but I just love these. My sister-in-law likes the cinnamon one best. It may be cinnamon raisin or something like that - I have forgotten.
I usually take fruit along with me for a snack, but there are times when it's good to have something along for emergencies - something that will fit in my purse. This bar is perfect for that. Plus, it will hold my appetite in check til I can get home.
This bar is easy to eat on the run. Granola and some other carry along snacks can get messy. Not this bar.
The ingredient list is good. Agave nectar is technically not raw, but I assume everything else is. The label includes an impressive list of major points - raw, cold pressed, gluten free, no refined sugars, no soy, no dairy, no peanuts, non GMO.
There are 18g of sugar, but my diet is very good so one of these now and then doesn't worry me.

(More customer reviews)I try to buy organic when I can. These puffs received great reviews, and advertise their low sugar content. The "Greens" flavor made me think that... they will taste like greens! It seemed like a great find.
Greens-
Well, there might be "greens" in these puffs but you sure can't taste any of it.
What do they taste like?
They taste sweet- an outer coating of sweetness, followed by a rice puff flavor. I do not agree with another reviewer who says that they are "just like Cheerios".
Sugar content-
They might have only 0.5g of sugar per serving, but compared with Cheerios this is still double the sugar (those have 1 in 28g). Not that Cheerios are the measure for all baby snacks, and they are certainly not organic, but they are at least not sweet tasting.
Packaging-
You will receive a box with six plastic dispensers similar to the ones you get for wipes. Each container contains 2.1 oz (60 g) of rice puffs. The containers are so light you could think they are empty. The packaging is complete overkill.
No wonder babies may like these- they taste sweet!
